Azalea pruning
Hi, looking for guidance, I have found 3 skinny azaleas about 18 inches high under other overgrown plants. They seem healthy as have nice green leaves on the ends and have flowered. But the middle is as bald as me !! Can they be pruned back hard to say 6 to 12 inches?
Thanks Craig

Hi Craig.
As a general rule most azaleas respond well to pruning as long as they are healthy and growing strongly.
Cut back and seal the wounds. Make sure there is lots of light on the bark to promote budding.
Without seeing them it's hard to comment on your own situation.
Fingers crossed for you. You have nothing to lose by trying really.🙂
